How to Create and Update Claude Skills for AI Marketing Reports
Key Takeaway
Build the report interactively first, then turn it into a Skill once the output is worth repeating. A well-built report Skill can pull fresh data from your connected Coupler flow every time it runs, recreate the same reporting structure, and keep evolving as you refine the report.

The Create Report Skill is available for download with this lesson. You can add it to Claude and use it to turn reports you've already built into reusable reporting Skills.
Turn a One-Off Claude Report into a Reusable Skill
I usually don't start by trying to design the perfect Skill. I start with the analysis itself. I'll ask Claude a question, work with the data, and refine the output until I have a report I know I'm going to use again.
Once the report is useful and repeatable, that's the point where it makes sense to package the workflow as a Skill.
Render the Report as an Artifact Before Creating the Skill
Claude can render analysis directly inside a chat, which is useful for quick questions. But for a repeatable report, I prefer to turn the output into an Artifact first.
That gives the report a more consistent structure and design. Once the Artifact looks the way I want, I can use it as the baseline for the reusable Skill.
Use the Create Report Skill to Capture the Reporting Logic
The Create Report Skill walks through the report you've built and captures the pieces needed to recreate it.
That can include the data source, filtering logic, column schema, metric definitions, report structure, dashboard elements, and visual design.
Once you've reviewed the captured setup and confirmed that it looks right, Claude can turn the report into a Skill that you save to your Skills library.
Make Sure Every Report Skill Pulls Fresh Data
A reusable report shouldn't simply reproduce an old Artifact with stale numbers. The Skill needs to go back to the defined Coupler data flow each time it runs and retrieve the most recent available data.
That lets you keep the structure of the report consistent while the underlying data refreshes automatically. You run the same Skill again later and get the same reporting format populated with current data.
Run the Finished Skill from a Claude Chat
Once the Skill is saved, you can start a new chat, type a forward slash, and select the report you want to run.

Claude then runs the Skill, retrieves the latest data through the connected flow, and recreates the report using the reporting logic and presentation you've already defined.
Edit an Existing Skill with “Edit with Claude”
You don't have to manually download a Skill file every time you want to make a change. From the Skills area in Customize, you can open an existing Skill and use Edit with Claude.
Claude creates a writable version of the Skill inside the chat, where you can explain what you want changed and let it update the underlying Skill files for you.
“Upload and Replace” Is the Critical Final Step
Making the edit inside the chat does not automatically replace the Skill you're already using.
After Claude makes the change, save the Skill and choose Upload and Replace. That replaces the existing version with the newly edited one.
If you skip this step, the change only exists inside the chat where you made the edit. The saved Skill itself will still be using the older version.
Update a Report Skill Directly While You're Working
The second editing workflow is useful when a report changes naturally while you're analyzing the data.
For example, you might run a weekly performance Skill that currently shows only week-over-week tables. During that reporting cycle, you decide an eight-week trend table would make the report more useful.
You can build that new section directly in the current chat, confirm that it's something you want in the recurring report, and then update the Skill from the same conversation instead of trying to recreate those changes somewhere else later.
Let Your Report Skills Evolve Over Time
Not every question that comes up during a reporting cycle belongs in the permanent template. Some analysis is specific to that week or that particular issue.
But when you notice that a new table, metric, chart, or reporting view would be valuable every time, you can promote it into the Skill.
This lets the reporting system evolve naturally. You use the report, learn what is missing, improve it inside the same workflow, and then save those improvements into the reusable version.
Reuse Report Skills Across Claude Projects
Skills don't have to be limited to a single Project. That makes them especially useful when you develop reporting workflows that can be reused across multiple clients, accounts, or environments.
The Skill provides the repeatable reporting logic, while each Project provides the specific data, instructions, taxonomy, and context needed for that environment.
